Getting ready for Sensory Sunday at Chuck E. Cheese.

Once a month, the Lone Tree and Superior stores open two hours early with the lights down, the amplifiers off and no flashing. Characters are optional and the team gives a heads-up before the noise comes back. The rest is pizza.

When it's quieter

“Sensory Sensitive Sundays is a monthly program at Chuck E. Cheese that opens two hours before normal operating hours on the first Sunday of each month.” “No reservation required. Siblings, parents, caregivers, and friends are all welcome.”

“Game room and dining area lighting is dimmed to a comfortable level. Safety-critical lights remain fully on. No strobing or flashing effects during the event.” “Background music is reduced. Amplifiers are off. The show plays visually with sound turned down.”

“When the two-hour window ends, our team gives families advance notice before returning to normal lighting and sound levels.”

  • Chuck E. Cheese lists Nov 1 and Dec 6. For January, call the store. Participation can vary by store, but both Lone Tree and Superior take part.
  • For Nov 1 and Dec 6, Chuck E. Cheese only says it opens two hours early, and both stores open at 11 on Sundays, so plan on about 9 to 11 am and call the store the week before to confirm the start and end time.

Three things to know

  1. Lights are dimmed, amplifiers are off, and there is no strobing or flashing. Game sound effects may still play at each machine.
  2. Characters are “available ... but fully optional”; tell the team if your kid wants to skip them.
  3. The team gives families advance notice before the lights and sound go back to normal.

  • The event opens before normal hours, “creating a smaller, calmer crowd.”
  • Sensory Sensitive Birthdays run during the same hours, with singing, characters and other parts optional. Minimum 10 children at booking.
  • The dining area gets “a quieter atmosphere and softer lighting.”
