Getting ready for the Downtown Aquarium.

Glowing tanks, a stingray you can touch, one pretend flood. The aquarium says a lot about the fish and little about the noise, so this page covers both.

Sensory supports. A Low Sensory Morning once a month, with the ambient sounds turned down.

Hours

10:00 am to 8:00 pm Sun to Thu, 10:00 am to 9:00 pm Fri and Sat.

700 Water St, Denver 80211

Low Sensory Morning, 8:30 am, 1.5 hours. The aquarium opens early and turns down the ambient sounds. You can stay as long as you like after. Call 303-561-4450 to ask when the flood effect runs. Reservation required. Last one of 2026. $30.73 adults, $29.67 seniors, $24.37 kids 3 to 11 (booking page totals).

When it's quieter

“Join us in the morning as we open early and turn down the ambient sounds to create a calmer and quieter setting.” One Sunday a month; next is Nov 15.

  • The aquarium doesn't say which hours are quiet. The Low Sensory Morning is the one time it promises a calmer building.
  • Friday evenings bring mermaid shows (6:30 in the exhibit; 5:30 and 7:30 in the restaurant) and mermaid meet and greets at Stingray Reef, 5:15 to 5:45 and 7:15 to 7:45. Those draw a crowd, so they're the hours to skip if crowds are hard for your kid.

Quieter

  • The exhibit path, in the aquarium's own order: North America, In the Desert, Under the Sea, At the Wharf (closed for maintenance from Sept 14), The Rainforest, Coral Lagoon, Sunken Temple, Shipwreck, At the Beach, Stingray Reef, then the train and carousel.
  • The rainforest exhibits are “periodically inundated by flooding” (the aquarium's words); the flood is one of the two things the sensory morning turns down.
  • Exhibit discount and free parking after 6 pm with an Aquarium Restaurant receipt.
  • Carousel rides are $5.25 and the train is $5.00. Rides can close for weather, so ask at the ticket booth before you promise one.
  • Stroller rental is $6.99 at the ticket box office. If you bring your own, don't leave bags in it unattended.
  • Outside food: coolers, bottled water, glass and outside food are “not permitted in Garden area without approval from management.”
  • Breakfast with Santa Dec 5, 12, 13 and 19 to 24, reservations required.
