A trip to the emergency room.

A sudden, busy, loud place we go when someone needs help fast. It is not a punishment, and a few calm facts make it far less frightening.

What to expect

The ER is bright, loud, and full of waiting, which is the hard part for many kids. Plans change fast and out of order, so the honest message is: you are safe, the people here help, and we do not always know how long. Bring headphones, a comfort item, and a charged phone. You know your kid.

Common questions

What if my child won't look at the schedule or story?

That is common at first. Leave it where the moment happens, point to one picture at a time, and keep it low-pressure. Many kids warm up to it after a few calm tries, in their own time.
