Getting ready foran adaptive ski lesson with NSCD.
Adaptive ski, snowboard, Nordic and snowshoe lessons at Winter Park Resort for ages 4 and up, including family lessons that teach you how to support your kid on the snow.
2-Track skiing is “best for skiers with mild developmental, cognitive, visual, or hearing impairments.” “Adaptive Nordic ski and snowshoe lessons offer a sensory-friendly alternative to downhill skiing.”
“Family lessons teach parents or caregivers techniques to support their loved one on the mountain while building confidence and independence together.”
NSCD runs its adaptive ski school at Winter Park Resort. For a kid who finds the lifts and busy slopes too much, NSCD itself calls Nordic skiing and snowshoeing a sensory-friendly alternative.
Family lessons teach you, the parent, ways to support your kid on the snow. To join one, you need to ski or snowboard on your own at an intermediate level or above.
Prices are only listed in the registration portal. Scholarships are available; you apply during registration.
Lessons for ages 4 and up (some activities start older), with a Winter Park Resort lift ticket and adaptive equipment included. Individual lessons are one-on-one with an adaptive instructor.
“Independent self-care or caregiver support is required.” If your kid needs a caregiver, the caregiver stays with them through the whole program.
