A huge outdoor hot springs pool in Glenwood Springs, open 9 am to 9 pm year-round, with a warm main pool and a hotter therapy pool. The water smells a little like eggs, and the resort explains why.
The Grand Pool “is kept at about 90° F / 32° C”; the therapy pool “is kept at a temperature of about 104° F / 40° C.”
“What is that egg-like smell? Sulfate.” Sulfur compounds “are naturally occurring in hot springs and the source of the characteristic eggy odor.”
“Pool reservations are NOT required, and we DO NOT impose time limits upon your stay. You can exit and re-enter for free, just stamp your hand for re-entry.”
“We provide free lockers, private dressing rooms, and showers along with family changing rooms and mobility accessible rooms.”
The Yampah Mineral Baths are included, and “Starting at 5:00 pm, this area transitions to adults only.”
The Grand Pool is 405 feet long, so there's room to move away from a crowded spot. Pick a meeting place you can both see in case you get separated.
Floats are allowed in the Grand Pool but not in the deep end or the therapy pool; lifejackets are allowed in the therapy pool, not the deep end.
Day pass: adults and teens $42 to $60, children $30 to $38, depending on peak or off-peak; 2 and under free. Online passes are non-refundable, and there are no weather refunds.
No outside food, drinks or coolers; refillable water bottles are allowed and there are refill stations. The poolside Grill sells food.
Lockers are free. Towels are for rent or sale in the pool lobby, and private cabanas can be rented separately.
